It’s a Free World… Free Enterprise… Free Markets… Free Speech

We all have heard these buzz words all of our lives until now no one has challenged these popular phrases, literally. Humanity can quickly fall off a cliff if such words were actually to become reality and I am afraid they are.

Our society is moving from the noble benefits of; freedom of enterprise, freedom of markets, and the freedom of speech towards the cheapness of enterprise, cheapness of products (markets) and the cheap rancor of free speech. Being cheap and hunting for “free” bargains can suck the blood out of our economy if we let it and the Internet can be the vacuum pump.

Free; (adj) without cost, payment or charge.

My contention is that the closer a society gets to “free” the closer it gets to anarchy. Yeah, I mean real anarchy; mobs with torches and pitchforks, bodies on the streets and Marshall Law type of anarchy. The fact is that you can’t get a good riot off the ground without someone demanding the ultimate bargain…” free stuff”.

People don’t act much different than a frenzied pond of fish when free pellets are cast upon the water. Have you seen the behavior of “sweet innocent brides to-be” at 80% off bridal sales or midnight (commando) Christmas bargain shoppers?

Like the wedding dress, greed can tear to shreds the fabric of our society and ruin its purpose if we let it.

The internet is loaded with FREE things that bait and snare people everyday. Most of the time, the one giving out the FREE cheese is the one that gets whacked. My complaint is that people can’t recognize (or respect) a great deal when they see it.

I have a friend whose family has been in the printing business for over 50 years. Profits from their business were plowed back into buying over $20 million of equipment and hiring a staff of loyal workers.

One of the things my friends does to grow his business is to give away high quality business cards (3,000 of them) to potential new customers. Yeah, that’s what I said 100% FREE, no strings attached, just for the “good will” it earns him.

The course of our society, in my opinion, rest with the response of those people who got the free business cards. If they run away and hide like a church mouse with stolen cheese never inclined to give my friend a penny, then we are all doomed.

My business, your business, the $20 million of printing equipment needs real money to grease its gears.

How do you respond to free? Graciously, thankfully (will you do business with them?) or do you grab the loot and split?

When the marketplace considers a person who creates real goodwill as a sheep to be sheered, it just might be “game over” for all of us.

We really don’t live in a free world and none of our businesses can operate as a free enterprise can they?

1. In baseball if you fail only 7 out of 10 times you might end up in the Hall of Fame. With this fact players are eager to get up a bat they “dare to fail”.

Pretty much all teams in baseball win 1/3 of there games and lose 1/3 of there games. It’s the other 3rd that determines success. Can you risk failing in public like a ball player does (in front of 30,000 angry fans)?

Do you take baby swings in life or simply bunt or just hope to draw a walk?

2. Life like baseball has a long season. After 162 games the different between the # 1 team and the #2 team could be a few “bounces of the ball”. To stay focused during so much chaos, uncertainty and pressure is an act of courage and emotional strength.

3. Baseball players work long hours and have a strong support network. Baseball players get to the park in the early afternoon they practice (to constantly refine their craft) and then wait for hours (they are patient).

Every player on the field is moving with every pitch in anticipation of action. (Constantly prepared to perform). Games start a 7:05pm and end at around 11:00pm by the time they unwind, eat and go to bed it must be 1:00pm (they work long hours).

They are on the road 50% of the time their families make big sacrifices too.

4. We all go through slumps in life and we all make errors. People cheer when we win and boo us when we lose but we are the same person regardless of the result. A lot of things in life are out of our control.

The most loyal fans in sports Cubs and Red Sox have tasted the most bitter defeats. But, it makes the Glory to come even more powerful. (thanks Billy B.) We are at our best when we forgive ourselves or our team mates and press on.

5. Don’t ever lose the passion to win in the big leagues. Don’t settle for a mid level (minor league) job that you could easily succeed at. Reach for the glory of the big leagues and have the courage to swing at every good pitch and slide hard into home.

6. Some day the game will be over, no one plays or lives forever. Make the best use of your time. Leave a legacy of goodwill behind with fans, team mates your community and organization.

Coach others and share your wisdom. Give them you respect and love regardless their results!

Who is your hero? here is mine….

The outstanding hitter known for a costly World Series error had just thrown out the ceremonial first pitch to a loud ovation before the Red Sox home opener. It was a strike to former teammate Dwight Evans.

The experience, Buckner said, was “probably about as emotional as it could get.”

But he nearly decided not to come.

The former first baseman knew the same old questions would crop up about that play 22 years ago that has been replayed on television hundreds of times.

At first, he turned down the team’s request. A few days later he agreed to return to Fenway Park for the first time since 1997 when he was batting coach with the Chicago White Sox.

“I really had to forgive,” he said after collecting himself, “not the fans of Boston per se, but I would have to say, in my heart, I had to forgive the media…”

“I don’t think that in society in general that’s the way we should operate. What are you teaching kids? Not to try because if you don’t succeed then you’re going to buried, so don’t try?” he said.

Another pause, this one for 10 seconds, before he continued, “…for what they put me and my family through. So I’ve done that. I’m over that. And I’m just happy that I just try to think of the positive. The happy things.”

Personal comment:
Now that is courage and class. Bill, you can be on my team anytime. You always were!

If your “old brand name” website isn’t giving you any online traffic here’s why…

#1. Using the “brand name “YourNameLaw.com as your sole website online is a big negative online. The best name for your web business is a domain name the succinctly tells the World how you HELP people. What comes first in your law practice your client needs or your ego?

#2 When your domain name matches the keyword phrase that your prospective client’s use, being found on the internet is relatively easy.

Example:
Old school marketing (bad) domain name: BrianFrenchLaw.com
New school (good) domain name: www.IsraelDivorceAttorney.com or www.DallasEstateAttorney.com (these sites cost only $600 to setup)

When prospects type in “Israel divorce attorney” or “Dallas estate attorney” in Google search my clients website are on the first page. We saved them a ton of money on trying to SEO a domain the Google or the world considers a dog.

#3 Many great domain names are still available. Sure maybe your perfect keyword phrase for the .com extension is gone for your niche law practice. But many .net or .org extensions are still available. Don’t get hung up on what .you think a net or .org extension means. In search engine rankings .net and .org rank ONLY behind .com (all other factors being equal). Ranking 2nd or 3rd isn’t so bad.

#4 When you want to retire and go fishing no one will want to buy your “yournamelaw.com” website or domain. Meanwhile the IsraelDivorceAttorney.com is likely to be a prized asset for generations to come.

Remember detective Friday’s motto on Dragnet…. “Just the facts, Maamm…”
Well, the same can be said about your website and what you do to help people.

I recently had a chat with a consultant friend of mine about how she keeps records of how successful her clients were and her response was “she had no records of their success”. In today’s online world that just isn’t an acceptable response.

The world is begging for a better way to do things…but we are all are exhausted from unproven and undocumented hype offers that promise the moon and deliver a dud. In the internet world, an un-documented offer has a life span of about 3 seconds (or a fast as it takes to hit the delete key).

Solution

Create undisputable evidence that what you do for a living helps people. Sound too hard to achieve? Then maybe you aren’t doing enough to put points on the board for your customers. Or maybe you need to dig deeper into your customers “real needs and pains” to come up with deeper solutions instead of “me too” superficial ones.

Example: An attorney represents clients in legal cases. True, no attorney wins every case. That is not the evidence prospective clients are looking for. What they are looking for is did the attorney make every effort to take away the clients pain from the situation?

Case studies are great opportunities to illustrate all the things you do to help people. Just like the way most of us judge the competence of a doctor you need to bring up the subject “Do you really care?” Saying you care without providing any evidence is a step backward.

CONTINUED…
I understand that some industries have restrictions on testimonials. But this hurdle just means you need to dig deeper to find solutions that demonstrate you are unique. Maybe it is creating a 10 point checklist addressing your client pain issues.

Do you routinely ask your clients whether they have trouble sleeping at night? If not, maybe you are just in the Law Business and not in the People Business.

How I help people? I help people get highly ranked in search engines so they can be found online for a modest amount of money. The reason I chose this business is that I can keep undisputable records on all of my clients and my batting average.

95% of my clients have remarkable success and I can; really, really, really, prove it.
Visit: http://www.AttorneyWebMarketing.net for this evidence.

To learn if this is the right thing for your contact me at 813 944-3190 (also learn why 5%, only had limited success).

“All means prove but blunt instruments, if they have not behind them a living spirit.” — Albert Einstein

“Man usually avoids attributing cleverness to somebody else, unless it is an enemy.” — Albert Einstein

“Before God we are all equally wise and equally foolish.” — Albert Einstein

“Heroism on command, senseless violence, and all the loathsome nonsense that goes by the name of patriotism — how passionately I hate them.” — Albert Einstein

“I always found I was in the best of company, alone.” — Albert Einstein

“The world as we see it is only the world as we see it. Others may see it differently.” — Albert Einstein

“The further the spiritual evolution of mankind advances, the more certain it seems to me that the path to genuine religiosity does not lie through the fear of life, and the fear of death, and blind faith, but through striving after rational knowledge.” — Albert Einstein

“The crippling of individuals I consider the worst evil of capitalism. Our whole educational system suffers from this evil. An exaggerated competitive attitude is inculcated into the student, who is trained to worship acquisitive success as a preparation for his future career.” — Albert Einstein

“Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.” — Albert Einstein

To act intelligently in human affairs is only possible if an attempt is made to understand the thoughts, motives, and apprehension of one’s opponent so fully that one can see the world through their eyes.” — Albert Einstein

“Love is a better teacher than sense of duty.” — Albert Einstein

“Setting an example is not the main means of influencing another; it is the only way.” — Albert Einstein

“External conditions can, to a certain extent, reduce, but never cancel individual repsonsibility.” — Albert Einstein

“I have never felt I was wasting time. Science is a process of trial and error. The only sure way to avoid making mistakes is to have no ideas.” — Albert Einstein

“The great moral teachers of humanity were in a way artistic geniuses in the art of living.” — Albert Einstein

“In matters of trust and justice there can be no distinction between big problems and small, for the general principles which determine the conduct of men are indivisible.
“Earnestly I must exert myself in order to return as much as I have received.” — Albert Einstein

“Most teachers waste their time asking questions which are intended to discover what a pupil does not know, whereas the true are of questioning has for its purpose to discover what the pupil knows or is capable of knowing.” — Albert Einstein

“A man’s ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties and needs; no religious basis is necessary.” — Albert Einstein
“Never do anything against conscience even if the state demands it.” — Albert Einstein

“Convictions can best be supported with experience and clear thinking.” — Albert Einstein

“The most superior of scientific goals is to embrace a maximum of experiment with a minimum of hypotheses.” — Albert Einstein

“When we are working at something, we come down from our high logical horse and sniff around with our nose to the ground. Then we obliterate our traces in order to become more God-like.” — Albert Einstein

“The only rational way of educating is to be an example. If one can not help it, a warning example.” — Albert Einstein

“Education is that which remains if one has forgotten everything ever learned in school.” — Albert Einstein

“Work is the only thing I do to escape the corruption of praise.” — Albert Einstein

“One can only continue to expect to be read if one omits everything that is unimportant.” — Albert Einstein

“It is easy to say something new, if all senses one will eschew. But hardly ever is found, that the new is also sound.” — Albert Einstein

“What good is a reputation not put to good use.” — Albert Einstein

“For me a simple message, to think and act with courage, independence and imagination.” — Albert Einstein

“Everyone likes me, yet nobody understands me.” — Albert Einstein

“Long live impudence. It was my guardian angel in this world.” — Albert Einstein

“My only refuge, as a serious young man, from the despair of my financial burden to my family, is that I did everything I could to never permit myself any amusements or diversions except those afforded by my studies.” — Albert Einstein

“Force attracts men of low morality.” — Albert Einstein

“I have never looked upon ease and happiness as ends in themselves. This ethical basis I call the ideal of the pigsty.” — Albert Einstein

“Every kind of peaceful cooperation among men is primarily based on mutual trust and only secondarily on institutions such as courts of justice and police.” — Albert Einstein

“You think you have troubles with mathematics . . . I assure you mine are still bigger.” — Albert Einstein

“To punish me for my contempt of authority, Fate made me an authority myself.” — Albert Einstein

“The only justifiable purpose of political institutions is to assure the unhindered development of the individual.” — Albert Einstein

“The attempt to combine wisdom and power has only rarely been successful and then only for a short while.” — Albert Einstein

“While it is true that an inherently free and scrupulous person may be destroyed, such an individual can never be enslaved or used as a blind tool.” — Albert Einstein

“Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding.” — Albert Einstein

“The aim (of education) must be the training of independently acting and thinking individuals who, however, see in the service to the community their highest life achievement.” — Albert Einstein
“To obtain an assured favorable response from people, it is better to offer them something for their stomachs rather than their brains.” — Albert Einstein

“Try not to become a person of success, but rather try to become a person of value.” — Albert Einstein

1. You have to have a terrific product to get a line forming outside your store. Having a product that people will flock to should be your #1 priority. Products that are scarce should not use the same business model as common products. If your product is just average, being “Doris Day” is not going to create demand.

2. You should tell you clients how to be Efficient in receiving your best services and products. If they hold up the line they are hurting the quality of the product. Don’t let them do it.

3. Not everyone gets free bread. Often times giving out a free service (like on the internet) devalues your product. Reserve the right to stop giving out freebies.

4. It’s OK to say no to customers “no soup for you”. If fact, it a good idea to tell them this early in the process. It is important to note, that the Soup Nazi did let customers come back if they learned how to be good customers.

.
The internet can be your best friend or worst enemy for your business… it’s all up to you.

The most important thing to remember is that doing business on the internet is a radically different business model to sell your products and services. You are not in Kansas anymore.

To harness the leverage and power of the internet many “old line” firms just throw up a website and expect radically improved results. That would be like putting a modern racing engine onto the chassis of a model T. It’s just a horrible and dangerous mismatch of resources that will ruin both pieces of equipment and your business.

Most people’s web businesses have one foot in the “old world” and one foot in the “new world”. Straddling these two tectonic plates is the most dangerous thing you can do. The worlds a changing you either have to jump on… or jump off.

For example, when Amazon started selling books online they sold them at razor thin profit margins. Everyone thought they were crazy (that’s how radicals are treated). If they would have kept their prices and margins the same as conventional book stores, they would have never grown. Why should they? They didn’t offer anything radically different to their customers.

What made Amazon and Ebay grow like a virus? They found a way to lower their operating expenses using the internet and then gave all of those benefits and more to their customers. Can you be that radical? Most people can’t, so they end up not getting anyone’s attention. Being on the Internet, is like being a Hollywood actor. If you are ignored by your audience, you are doomed.

How to be an internet star?
1. Throw out the old business model and don’t look back.
2. Focus your energy & try to give your customers 5 times more than your competition for half the price.
3. Dominate your niche.

Sound impossible? It’s not. I have a website that competes with a billion company called Lawyers.com. They have a million attorneys on their website, in all law practice areas that pay a pricey fee of about $5,000 a year.

Sound like tough competition? In reality, they aren’t. I only focus on one area of law probate and estate settlement. I give consumers over 500 pages of helpful information about probate for free (more than the other guys). Consumers appreciate it.

In my attorney directory, I limit the number of attorneys that can join to only 400 to 500. I give attorneys exclusive listings 300,000 in population. My price is less than 1/3 of Lawyers.com. Because my site is loaded with strictly probate and estate content; Google considers my site THE AUTHORITY and gives me traffic on over 4,360 different estate keywords.

Making things even more interesting is that I give attorneys 20 more probate websites to advertise their law practice in the probate niche. I have another 10 more websites to roll out. I just cut my price to just $97 a month. Sound insane? I hope so…that’s my radical business model.

In our other business of Search Engine Optimization we undercut the competitions prices by 70% and I am sure we out produce them by at least 300 to 500%. We track our client’s performance so we can prove how (radically) good we are.

How radical is your web business?

Sometimes you have to drop out… to drop in
You can only connect the dots looking backwards
Dropped the baton… but still in love…it freed me to be a beginner again.
It was awful tasting medicine but I guess the patient needed it.
The only way to do great work is love what you do…
If today was the last day on my life would I do what am going to do today?
Even people who want to get to heaven don’t want to die to get there…

Almost everything – all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important.
Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of think you have something to lose.
Death is very likely the best invention of life. It is life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new.
Don’t be trapped by the dogma which is living with the results of other people’s thinking.
Don’t le the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice.
And… most important have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.

Stay hungry…. stay foolish
